In January of this year WitsEnd opened a state of the art hydrotherapy pool which is heated, has hoist facilities, wash / drying facilities and jets to increase the amount of exercise a dog can be given in a session.
Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for a number of conditions, arthritis, obesity, or even for just pure fun! and has a number of benefits i.e. non-weight bearing exercise to help strengthen muscles, good cardiovascular exercise, increased mobility of the joints and muscles and even for confidence building.
One of our first clients was Martin Knifton with his 2 year old Labrador Jack. Martin noticed Jack was limping which was diagnosed by his veterinary surgeon as arthritis in both front legs. The vet recommended that Jack go swimming.
Having attended WitsEnd School for Dogs whilst the pool was being built Martin booked Jack in for swimming. Although Jack was very nervous to begin with Jack is now very confident and he can swim for almost 20 minutes against the highest setting for the jets in one session.
The most noticeable benefits have been the increased muscle growth and good cardiovascular fitness as Jack's off lead play was restricted, not to mention the increased quality of life as Jack can now jump on to the sofa!
Well done Jack!
